WHAT STONES ARE GOOD FOR

These works have been inspired originally from travels to China and Mexico, places with a deep and enduring past. These paintings seek to question what is revered versus what is discarded and forgotten,  exploring what is acknowledged as valuable versus that which is not. Might the two be reversed? The artist questions where the true narrative of the people lies, with common trash paralleled cultural objects and sites. Each can be considered an epic narrative that effects the other, entertwined and lasting. These works are a response to observed “piles of stuff”—whether trash or stones, food or artifacts, local dialect or enduring cultural narratives.
