SIGHT | SOUND

These works are the results of collaborations between Melissa Furness and composer Sam McGuire. One piece, Traversal, speaks to roads traveled in directions that are not so straight. They are meandering and complex and led by the heart to places that are both known and unknown. The audio composition is a mixture of a sampled heartbeat, synthesized music, and sounds captured at ancient castle ruins in the Czech Republic, with a run time of 41 minutes. The paintings attached to speakers are oil paint on aluminum and are ordinary weeds from the yard transformed with hidden creatures. Another piece is an installation of paintings and sounds installed at Meow Wolf Denver and took inspiration from the grotesques originally discovered in Nero’s Golden House in Rome. The sound runs approximately 45 minutes in length, incorporating unique melodies and distorted animalistic noises sampled from Bison at the Rocky Mountain Arensal.
