ON | OFF THE WALLS

With all of Furness’ creative work, there is this drive to explore space and media in relation to her developing concepts. With this series of works, the notion of a painting or drawing traditionally hung on a blank white wall is pushed in multiple directions, sometimes extending onto other parts of the walls, and at other times, extending entirely off of it. The painting or drawing transforms from illusionary imagery within the work itself and instead becomes an outward element as part of larger ruinous structure which forces the viewer to interact with the work in an entirely different way. These works place into question the preciousness of a single work of art.
