COLLABORATION

Melissa Furness and Rian Kerrane have been collaborating on works at various times over the past eight years. The artists are aware of the parallels within each other’s work, despite the seemingly contrast of materials that they each utilize. Patterns, artifacts, and nature cross over and populate one another in a rich, symbolic, textured language in the collaborations that they produce. The combinations of Furness’ and Kerrane’s works seek to merge imagery with objects, projections and movement into complex layers of meaning. Through this collaboration, I seek to gain a continuing understanding of space in relation to painting as the dialog between myself and another artist that works primarily in three dimensions, fostering a unique narrative of objecthood. With these works, one can see a sensitivity to weight and buoyancy, the historic and the domestic, as well as a play with materials and narrative that lingers.
