IN THE RAW

These works demonstrate the act of drawing in the form of a project that starts with the immediate process of drawing and then takes this “sketch” and pushes it further by placing it in a new environment–essentially, challenging the work to take on a life of its own. These pieces are inspired by the specifics of place. Each project was produced in a different country and is based off of my sense of that location while combining immediate experiences with those that I have absorbed in the past. I see these works as a process of transformation… the transformation of the art objects that I produce as well as my own transformation of experience. A part of these processes is performative in a way, as I play a role as a kind of caretaker of these “things” which move from one form to the next. A visual and physical dialog results that I find fascinating and supplemental to the formation of the ideas that I take on for other series.
