Furness’ creative work is based on experiences of travel, site specificity and local culture. When on location, the artist works in residence amongst the local population, observing the surroundings of a place in order to allow it to become a real part of the work through creative empathy. As a result, these works are time sensitive, somewhat performative and highly process based. They rely on response and interaction with the contemporary public as they are conducted and presented on location and address directly observed issues of place and culture.
